Wedding Theme - Halloween

Once in a while I like to post about a theme wedding that I think is a fun idea. This are not going to be for everyone, but if you are looking for something different these are to cool!

How much fun would a Halloween wedding be? it could be done either scary or just fun. I would choice just fun... I don't think I want zombies at my wedding, if you like that sort of thing there are plenty of ideas out there. For this post I'm just going to talk about a fun Halloween wedding.

Depending on your location, you could do an outdoor wedding with all of the fall colors. This would be beautiful in pictures. The bride and groom in traditional colors. The bridesmaids could be in a mocha or a soft orange color. Hay bales and pumpkins would be such an adorable way to decorate and cheap too. We all know how much the wedding expenses can add up. The centerpieces could be fallen leaves, with candles and raffia tied around them. If you wanted to be a little more "Halloweenish" you could do spider webs, cauldrons and carved pumpkins lighting up the evening. The posibilities are endless.

Hate Daddy's Little girl or Butterfly Kisses? Check these songs out...

The tradition of a father/ daughter dance at the wedding reception is something that needs a little thought and planning. If you are like me, we didn't want to dance to anything sappy and tons of songs are beautiful, but when we danced to them some of the words turned things creepy. Here are a few non-traditional but appropriate songs for this special moment with your dad.

Landslide - Fleetwood Mac or the Dixie Chicks
This Way - Jewel
These are the Days - Van Morrison
Moon River - Henry Mancini
Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Here for You - Neil Young
For My Dad - Nancy Sinatra
Isn't She Lovely - Stevie Wonder
In My Life - The Beatles

Wedding Colors

Black and white has always been go to colors for weddings. They are traditional and sophisticated. But, there are many new trends for wedding colors. When planning your wedding reception it is a good idea to know what color theme you want to go with. Some of my favorites are: Navy and pink, pink and brown, blue and brown, pink and green, yellow and navy, yellow, pink and orange... the possibilities are endless!

Fun Stuff to Register For!

Registering is so fun. And for the most part it is important to be practical about the items that you ask for. But, I think it is a great idea to put a couple of things that are "normal" on your registry. Just because they are not normal does mean they will be useless either! Here are some ideas for fun registry items.

Board Games
Nerf Guns - what a great way to end a fight or relieve some tension.
Camping Gear
Video Games
Video Game Gear - remotes, guitar hero
Bathrobes
Cookbooks
Fun Appliances - Popcorn maker, Ice Cream maker, Margaretta maker... etc
Pregnancy Test, hehe

These are just a few ideas, but remember the sky is the limit. You don't have to just ask for dishtowels anymore.

Bridal Emergency Kit

It is a good idea to put together an emergency kit for your wedding day. Not only for you, but for your wedding party too. Here are some ideas for what you may need:

Extra pair of nylons
Breath mints
Shout wipes - This saved my wedding dress from a family member who gave me a hug and half her face.
Small sewing kit
Baby wipes
Lipstick
Any prescription medications that are taken on a daily basis
Pain relievers, allergy meds, and something for stomach issues
Little bit of cash - just in case...
Hair pins
Deodorant
Feminine products

This is a good start to ward of an emergency. Put one of your bridesmaids in charge of it so you don't have to think of it again.

Did you know that some wedding cost can be tax deductible?

And so begins the rest of your lives...

So, you've been planning your wedding for months. The big day has come and gone, with or with disasters. But, now it is just you and your new spouse. The plan has been set. Your maid of honor and best man have decorated your room with rose petals and left you champagne. You bought "a special" little something to slip on for when the gown comes off.

Then it hits you. Not everyone has the romantic wedding night of the movies. Your starving, your feet are killing you, you have sore cheeks from all the smiling, your exhausted, you've been holding it all night since you can't bear to ask your friends to hold your dress up one more time, and you have enough hair pins to make a mini Eiffel Tower.

Just for the record how ever you end the day of your wedding, just remember how special the day was. By the way, I know of many couple who passed out from exhaustion, pass out for other reasons, opened wedding gifts, when to through the drive thru, etc... It doesn't have to be magic. Just what is magic for you as a couple at that very moment.

Cheers to the bride and groom

Giving a toast is an important tradition for a wedding. These can come in all shapes and sizes. And they aren't just for the best man anymore.

Often the Maid of Honor or the Bride's father give a toast in addition to the groom. But, really anyone can. Just be sure to let your venue know that if you don't want an open mic night, to take the microphone away before Aunt Fran starts talking about your most embarrassing moments.

Also, a toast doesn't have to be champagne. This can get expensive depending on your wedding size. You could always do a sparkling cider. This is also choice for people wishing to have a dry wedding.

Lastly, if you are getting married on the beach, I would say that margaritas, mojitios, or pina colodas would be a great choice.

Don't look a cash horse in the mouth...

Q:  Can we ask our wedding guest to give cash instead of gifts?

A:  Nope... but what you can do is spread the word through your bridesmaids and family. When someone asks them, they could say money. But not everyone likes to give cash. So, it is always good to register for a few items for people to choose from.

Q:  My maid of honor never gave me a wedding gift, should I say something?

A: Again Nope... I'm sure that your Maid of Honor did more than her fair share helping to plan your wedding and supporting you. Not to mention, that they usually pay for their own ettire, help with showers and a bachelorette party.

On thing to remember when it comes to gifts is that it is a choice. You've invited the person to enjoy your day with you. Not see what they give you. If your guest is gracious enough to bring a gift, then be sure to send a thank you note. But the purpose of the wedding is not to "get" something, it is to share this day with the people you love and care about.
